Rice is a major stable in sub-Saharan Africa, providing energy needed in diet. The crop is however sensitive to salt stress, especially during the juvenile stages. In other to increase crop yield and production in the face of increasing saline soils, there is the need to obtain materials which are tolerant to these conditions and their subsequent utilization in breeding programs.
