The different conceptual frameworks in environmental science that have a relationship with desertification were examined. The overall goal of desertification research is to disentangle the complications revolving around it in order to identify ways of improving the land and the livelihood of those who bear its brunt. Different situations demand different ways of study and prescriptions. The reviewed conceptual frameworks applicability in spatial and temporal realms were highlighted. The review espoused the inclusivity of a component of Sustainable Livelihood Framework to any selected framework that falls short of enabling a feedback loop with the landowners.
