Molecular Characterization Of Fungi Associated With Cnidoscolus Aconitifolius (mill.) I. M. Johnston
Cnidoscolus aconitifolius (Mill.) I. M. Johnston is an underutilized plant with immense medicinal and other values. Unfortunately, little is known about the fungal organisms associated with this plant. This study was carried out to identify the fungal species associated with Cnidoscolus aconitifolius. Basic molecular techniques for identifying a fungus based on Polymerase Chain Reaction and sequencing of the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region of the fungal rRNA operon has proven to be a more reliable method of identifying fungal species. In this study, Cnidoscolus aconitifolius leaves and stem showing disease symptoms were obtained from Choba, Rivers State.
