This paper examines the current process of acquisition in Ondo State, Nigeria in order to identify gaps between the set standards and the existing practice. To achieve this, information was collected from interview with the government agency. The result of the analysis revealed that 60 working days is the average time required for processing an acquisition for land of less or equal to 30 hectares. Delays in either approving or releasing money for enumeration/ valuation exercise or compensation sums recommended, partial or temporary abandonment when government changes hands and fraudulent undertones in payment are the major problems confronting acquisition process in the study area.
