Report On The Detection And Establishment Of Ageratum Houstonianum Mill In Bayelsa State A Lowland Rainforest Zone In Nigeria
Invasive alien plant species are significant and increasing problems in the face of changing climate especially in farmlands and forests. Ageratum houstonianum Mill is a garden escape herbaceous plant that has become invasive in different parts of the world; was found occurring in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Field assessments revealed heavy scale intrusion, colonization and expansion of the species in various habitats with severe impacts on the native ecosystems. Its introduction is unknown; however, we posit flooding as the likely mechanism of its introduction to the state.
