The study was carried out to investigate and unpack the Uninterrupted, Sustained and Silent Reading, (USSR) approach in teaching reading at grade five level at Mamvura Primary School in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. The approach was muted out of the need to come up with an Afro centric approach in teaching reading to resource poor settings and linguistic minorities such as those found in the study area.
