This paper examines the use of standardized precipitation index (SPI) for drought intensity assessment in north-eastern Nigeria with a view to evaluate whether SPI can serve as better indices for drought assessment in North-Eastern Nigeria. Adopting descriptive statistics and SPI computation to drought situations and comparison of SPI with actual rainfall and rainfall deviation from normal in seven selected station in north eastern Nigeria.
