Gender Inequity And Orphan Vulnerability In Akwa Ibom And Rivers State South-south Nigeria: Policy And Programming Implications
Nigeria is a Country with diverse culture, tradition and norms which enable gender inequality. The Country also has a very high burden of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). This study is aimed at investigating the gender inequity among orphans and vulnerable children in Akwa Ibom and River State in Nigeria’s oil rich South-South geopolitical zone. Data obtained through household survey on number of male and female OVC per household, age distribution of male and female OVC, age at first sex of OVC, education of OVC, and HIV/AIDS awareness of OVC were analyzed using the student t-test, the Chi-square test for independence and homogeneity and the Mann-Whitney U-test.
