The English language still serves as Nigeria’s eye on the world. For the Nigerian learner/student to acquire the skills to communicate effectively in this language, the language teacher must be skilled adequately to be able to expose the learner to the appropriate skills that will enhance the learner’s achievement and competence in the language. This study is a survey that sought the knowledge of grammar component of Kano State English teachers and also investigated the effectiveness of deductive and inductive teaching in the second language classroom. One hundred copies of questionnaire were administered and the response rate was 85%. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed
