Patterns And Outcomes Of Injuries Admissions At A County Hospital In Kenya, 2016
Injuries are a public health problem that is rising in priority over time. Over 90% of global mortalities due to injuries occur in low- and middle income countries. In Kenya, injuries account for half to three quarters of all emergency hospitalizations into surgical units. This was a hospital-based cross-sectional study where all patients admitted at the Hospital due to injuries during the study period were consecutively recruited. Data were collected through patient interviews and from hospital records. Of the 394 injury admissions, 76.6% were male and 19.5% were children <5years.
