The message sent by this paper is that emerging oil and gas producing countries in Africa must not be complacent when it comes to both onshore and offshore drilling activities. The lessons to be learned from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill are instructive and remind us that the sector is arduous and fraught with risks and danger, in particular when it comes to oil pollution and safety.
