Building Permit In Informal Settlements - "a Measure Of Development Control Or Source Of Municipal Revenue": The Case Of Ubungo Municipality
This study assesses the effectiveness of building permit process as a measure of development control in informal settlements. It is motivated by the established strategy by the Municipality of issuing building permit in informal settlement. This has been prompted by the inability of the Municipality to efficiently plan and survey its areas. However, despite the fact that for over two years the process of provision of building permit in informal settlements continues there is no any assessment made on the effectiveness of this development control strategy. This study was focused in all informal settlements applied for the building permit in the Municipality. The study guided by four variables
