This paper presents a comparative study of three-phase and five-phase inverter fed with three-phase and five-phase induction motor respectively. The objective is to obtain the conventional and multilevel inverters performance based on inverter output voltages, harmonics generated and also the speed, torque performance of the induction motors. The Pulse width modulation strategy is employed to generate the various power switching signals both for conventional and multilevel models. The inverters output voltages are fed to the three-phase and five-phase induction motors operating in synchronous reference frame.
