Rainfall Runoff Modeling Using Hec-hms Sma For Water Balance Determination In Sosiani Catchment, Kenya
Assessment of catchment water balance is a pre-requisite to understand the key processes of the hydrologic cycle. Water demand to meet human needs is on the increase against a finite supply in Sosiani catchment. However scanty information exists on available flow to meet competing needs that may trigger ecological imbalance. A continuous HEC-HMS SMA model was developed to simulate daily flows for Sosiani River. Flow hydrographs depicted seasonal pattern corresponding to the rainfall received in the catchment. The rainfall-runoff model performed reasonably well in simulating total flow volumes for Sosiani catchment as the estimated residue in percentage of total observed flow range was 0.2%,
