Merger, Acquisition And Employment In Nigerian Banking Sector : A Comparative Analysis (1999 -2011)
Consolidation via merger and acquisition reduced the number of banks from 89 to 21 banks and this send threat to bank employees that jobs will be lost . and this affect the country’s employment level there-by increasing unemployment rate. The objective of the study is to determine if consolidation increases employment in the Nigerian banking sector. In achieving this objective the study employed secondary data and Student T test to compare the mean differences between the two periods (pre and post consolidation) at 95% confidence level. The study found that consolidation increases jobs offerings, the study recommended for more branches.
