The study examined variants of inheritance system in Esan land and their socio-cultural implications on their women. Ethnographic method of study was the major study design adopted for this study. The five local government areas that make up Central Senatorial District of Edo state Nigeria were clustered into five. Three out of these were purposively selected. Key Informant Interview, Focused Group Discussion and Case studies (including life experiences of some widows) were used for data collection.
