Househelps’ Awareness On Laws Governing Domestic Work In Westlands Subcounty In Nairobi City, Kenya
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates show that in 2010, 52.6 million women and men above the age of 15 were domestic workers. This figure represents a significant share of global wage employment at 3.6 per cent. Globally domestic employment is regulated by the provisions of the Domestic Workers Convention, 2011 (189). In Kenya, there is an extensive legal structure to govern domestic employment such as the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and a set of employment laws. In spite of the existence of such legal structures, househelps remain vulnerable at their work places.
