The quest for Nigeria to diversify its economy becomes imperative considering the reality of global economic downturn since 2008 which affected the price of crude oil in the world market. The paper seeks to examine the potentials of irrigation within the agricultural sector. Specifically, this study assessed the capacity of the contribution the irrigation scheme (Middle Rima Valley Irrigation Scheme) under the Sokoto River Basin Development Authority in an attempt to diversify the economy of Nigeria.
