Inspite of various special measures adopted by the Orissa government for socio-cultutal & economic development of tribals, Mayurbhanj district of Orissa, a home of large heterogeneous tribal groups has witnessed two tribal movements i.e. Tribal Revolt (1948-49) & Jharkhand Movement during post independent period. Thus, an attempt has been made in the present study to explore & explain two major factors i.e. Nature & Process of Economic deprivation of the tribals & process of their cultural disintegration, associated with emergence of said movements in the district. Since the present study is both exploratory & explanatory, data were collected from primary as well as secondary sources.
