The National Health Management Information System, known as NHMIS, is central to health data management in Nigeria. Its success depends on the competence of health workers and on the conditions under which they operate. An earlier study in Ughelli South Primary Health Authority found that health workers had a moderate level of knowledge of NHMIS tools, but it did not explain what drives this competence or set out the challenges workers face. This study examined the demographic and professional factors that shape health workers' knowledge and understanding of NHMIS data tools, and identified the challenges affecting NHMIS implementation in Ughelli South Primary Health Authority, Delta State.
